Stainless Steel-Wrapped Buildings at Northeastern University

Architecture firm Payette has unveiled the EXP building, a striking addition to Northeastern University’s science and engineering campus. Situated on a former brownfield site, the eight-story structure is wrapped in stainless steel ribbons forming a unique “solar veil” across its facades. The building also features a rooftop garden, combining eco-friendly design with cutting-edge functionality.

The EXP building integrates the largest global installation of filtered fume hoods, complemented by high-performance, low-flow technologies that drastically reduce air flow requirements. This innovation significantly lowers energy consumption for ventilation-intensive programs, setting new standards for sustainability in laboratory design.
