Abhijeet Bhutta, Director of Hempshier Steel Pvt. Ltd., shared his insights on stainless steel demand, India’s growth story, and the importance of global networking for the industry’s future at GSSE 2025, which concluded in June this year.

The stainless steel industry is buzzing, and it was evident when we walked through the vibrant exhibition, workshops and conference areas of the Global Stainless Steel Expo 2025 (GSSE 2025). Amid this excitement, the Stainless Today team caught up with Abhijeet Bhutta, Director of Hempshier Steel Pvt Ltd, a company that has been shaping the stainless steel import landscape for over three decades. From importing premium coils, sheets, and plates to offering advanced service centre solutions, the company has been part of the evolving industry over the years.

In this interview, Bhutta shared his thoughts on the industry’s growth, the importance of participating at GSSE, and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for stainless steel in India.

Tell us about your experience at GSSE 2025?

We are importers of stainless steel. So, we do have a couple of mills that had set up their stalls at the event. We came to interact with them as well. Along with me, I had my peers and my friends from Taiwan who were visiting this exhibition. It was their first time here. They also wanted to explore the stainless steel industry in India and see how much it has developed over the last few years. It has been a great experience overall.

How do you view the next few years for the stainless steel industry in terms of growth?

In the past few years, the demand for stainless steel has grown exponentially. This has been mainly due to the government and Make in India initiatives. The manufacturing in India has been boosted. This leaves an open market for us to tap into. With this, numerous products have started being made in India – from utensils to elevators, and even automobiles. This is an area that I believe will continue to grow in the near future and will allow us to expand our business if we tap into the right customers at the right time.

In what ways has your GSSE experience helped you gain the insights needed to build your company?

My experience with GSSE has been enriching as it helped me connect with my peers in the stainless steel industry. Visiting their stalls and seeing the innovations they were showcasing has been a great learning opportunity and inspires me to grow my business as well. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience to be among my fellow peers.
