India UAE steel trade
An important milestone in the nation’s efforts was reached on July 4, 2025, when the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) launched its first foreign representative office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to increase its steel presence internationally. The office was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy.
This strategic step is expected to boost steel exports, deepen India-UAE trade relations, and align with India’s ambitious vision of achieving 300 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel production capacity by 2030.By taking this action, SAIL has joined the ranks of the first Indian public sector steel producers to enter the Middle East, a crucial international market for building and infrastructure supplies.
“This marks a new chapter in India’s steel journey,” Shri Kumaraswamy said during the inaugural ceremony. In addition to creating new export opportunities, the Dubai office will strengthen our resolve to establish India as a major global steel producer. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is a fast-growing market for steel, driven by massive infrastructure, energy, and housing projects. As a gateway to the entire region, SAIL’s presence in Dubai will provide quicker service and more solid relationships with stakeholders and customers.
Dubai offers strategic access to markets in the Gulf, Africa, and beyond due to its location at the intersection of international trade. The office will also serve as a hub for understanding market trends, customer needs, and exploring collaboration with regional businesses.
SAIL’s expansion into Dubai supports the Indian government’s 300 MTPA steel target and reflects the growing confidence of Indian steelmakers on the world stage.Additionally, it aligns with the larger “Make in India for the World” goal, guaranteeing that Indian steel plays a part in global success stories.
With this bold step, India significantly strengthens its position as a trustworthy and competitive player in the global steel business.
