Vodafone Business and Elisa Strengthen Outokumpu’s Global Connectivity for Sustainable Stainless Steel

Outokumpu is teaming up with Vodafone Business and Elisa to improve its digital network. This will help keep its global operations smooth, safe, and eco-friendly.

One of the top stainless steel firms in the world, Outokumpu, is being supported by Vodafone Business and Finnish digital company Elisa. Outokumpu is known for making stainless steel using 95% recycled materials. The corporation employs over 8,700 people and has factories in the USA, Finland, Germany, Mexico, and Sweden.

Outokumpu’s stainless steel is 100% recyclable. It is used in buildings, bridges, cars, trains, trucks, and home appliances. Every year, their factories turn more than 2 million tonnes of scrap into new, strong, and eco-friendly steel.

Outokumpu is putting more of an emphasis on digital communication in order to effectively run its operations. Elisa and Vodafone Business can help with that. They assist Outokumpu in overseeing its global network and internet infrastructure.

Last year, Elisa set up a smart digital network (called SD-WAN) for Outokumpu. Now, with Vodafone Business, they will continue to support and manage data traffic smoothly—whether it’s at a local office or a remote steel plant. They will also fix any network problems to make sure everything runs safely and without pause.

Outokumpu Vice President Risto Mikola stated that an effective and secure internet is critical to business operations, particularly in mines, factories, and offices worldwide. Elisa’s Jorma Niemelä stated that their staff will help Outokumpu keep on course by offering prompt support and resolving problems.

The partnership is based on smart technology and a strong network setup. Vodafone’s global reach makes it easier for Elisa to provide Outokumpu with internet solutions everywhere. Together, they are helping Outokumpu stay strong in its digital journey and support its green goals.

Outokumpu has been around since 1910, starting from a copper discovery in Finland. Today, it’s known for producing stainless steel with a carbon footprint up to 75% lower than the global average. Thanks to Vodafone Business and Elisa, it now has the digital tools to lead in sustainability and smart steel production.
