Authorities in Dwarka now move ahead with a major plan to rebuild the Sudama Bridge with a stronger stainless steel design. The reconstruction team will remove the entire superstructure, and it will design a modern stainless steel cable bridge.
The government clears Rs 14.11 crore for a full reconstruction, and the plan places stainless steel at the centre of the project. The Yatra Dham Vikas Samiti sets aside Rs 9.11 crore, and the Dwarka Devasthan Samiti adds Rs five crore. Moreover, the authorities approve the tender, and they issue a fresh work order to the same company that built the bridge earlier. As a result, the firm prepares to start work soon, and visitors can expect a safer and sturdier bridge.
Stainless steel offers long-term strength, and it also resists corrosion in coastal weather. Therefore, the material fits the conditions of Dwarka, where salty winds and moisture affect normal structures. In addition, stainless steel gives better flexibility during load and movement, and engineers consider it ideal for bridges that face heavy foot traffic.
Officials plan to retain the existing pillars, and they will strengthen each one with stainless steel fittings. They want to improve safety, and they aim to prevent issues that earlier designs could not handle. Furthermore, the team plans a smooth layout that supports steady flow, and it wants to reduce long waiting lines during peak hours.
Reliance built the original bridge to link the Gomti River to the sacred Panchkui pilgrimage site. It soon became a major attraction, and many pilgrims enjoyed the direct and scenic route. However, officials closed it in October 2022 after the Morbi bridge tragedy. Pilgrims then faced long detours, and tourists lost access to the calm and beautiful beach. Pilgrims, therefore, can expect a stronger and more durable Sudama Bridge. Tourists will again enjoy easy access to Panchkui, and they will also return to the popular beach area. Dwarka, as a result, will welcome a safer and future-ready landmark built on stainless steel strength.
