Steel Tube Institute launches stainless steel Conduit Subcommittee

The Steel Tube Institute (STI), a premier organisation uniting key players in the steel industry, proudly announces the establishment of a dedicated subcommittee focused on stainless steel conduit (Steel Tube Institute’s Stainless Steel Conduit page). This initiative aims to promote the use of stainless steel systems for safeguarding electrical wiring in challenging and corrosive settings. A newly launched stainless steel conduit resource hub provides access to technical white papers, detailed use cases, and insights into the material’s benefits.

Stainless steel rigid conduit, compliant with NEC® standards for all facility types and locations, including hazardous areas, is celebrated for its superior corrosion resistance, durability, and strength across diverse temperature ranges. These qualities ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical systems throughout their lifecycle. 

Additionally, stainless steel’s recyclability and low-maintenance requirements offer long-term cost-effectiveness, despite its higher upfront investment. It is easy to install, hygienic, and visually appealing. Comprising industry leaders Atkore, Gibson Stainless and Robroy Stainless, the subcommittee aims to educate stakeholders—including architects, builders, electricians, and municipalities—on the best practices and applications for stainless steel conduit. According to Dale Crawford, Executive Director of the Steel Tube Institute, the subcommittee’s efforts will be vital in expanding awareness and adoption of these solutions.
