Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL), India’s largest stainless steel producer, has unveiled a Rs 700 crore plan for decarbonisation projects. At the same time, the company reported a 14 per cent drop in carbon emissions for FY25, marking a reduction of 318,248 metric tonnes of CO₂ compared to FY24.
The company credited this progress to several green initiatives. It commissioned Odisha’s largest captive solar power plant and introduced energy efficiency upgrades across its facilities. JSL also rolled out digital solutions for supply chain transparency while continuing its community programmes in education, healthcare, and skill development.
Looking ahead, the company plans to build on this momentum in FY26. It has also set a long-term sustainability roadmap, which includes cutting emissions by 50 per cent by 2035 and reaching net zero by 2050.
Kalyan Kumar Bhattacherjee, Chief Sustainability Officer at JSL, said the company’s first Integrated Report for FY25 highlighted milestones such as ambitious ESG targets, a Double Materiality Assessment, and the commissioning of Odisha’s largest captive solar facility. He added that these achievements reflected JSL’s commitment to responsible growth and sustainability.
On the financial front, JSL posted an annual turnover of Rs 40,182 crore (US $4.75 billion) in FY25. The company now aims to ramp up operations to reach 4.2 million tonnes of annual melt capacity by FY27. JSL operates 16 manufacturing and processing units in India and overseas. These include facilities in Spain and Indonesia. The company is also strengthening its presence across 12 countries.
JSL manufactures stainless steel using electric arc furnace technology. This process lowers greenhouse gas emissions while enabling high levels of scrap recycling without compromising quality. Its diverse portfolio covers slabs, coils, plates, sheets, wire rods, precision strips, rebars, blade steel, and coin blanks.
Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless remains focused on innovation, efficiency, and a greener, more sustainable future.
