At the Global Stainless Steel Expo (GSSE) 2025, industry leaders across sectors gathered to explore the expanding role of stainless steel. Among them was Medha Jambhale, Senior Deputy Director at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), who shared her perspective on how stainless steel is integrated into the automotive sector. She also spoke about the sector’s evolving sustainability mindset and how platforms like GSSE contribute to cross-industry knowledge sharing and innovation.
How relevant is stainless steel to the automotive sector from ARAI’s perspective?
Stainless steel plays an important role in the automotive sector. It has a significant presence in various components due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and performance benefits. From ARAI’s point of view, it is essential to stay updated with new technologies and material advancements, and this Summit offered that opportunity.
Have you observed any changes in how sustainability is perceived in industry events like this?
Yes, definitely. I have attended many seminars over the years, and I can see a positive shift in awareness regarding sustainability. Today, it’s not just about understanding sustainability—it’s about adopting and integrating it into processes and practices.
While we may still be catching up with some other countries, I believe India is moving in the right direction, and we’ll soon be on par with global sustainability trends.
What are your thoughts on your experience at the Summit?
I’m truly glad I attended. This is my first time attending the Global Stainless Steel Expo, and I must say it has been an enlightening experience. Usually, I participate in automotive-focused events, but attending a Summit dedicated to materials and stainless steel has helped me gain new insights. This platform gave me an excellent opportunity to learn, interact with experts and understand the latest in stainless steel technologies.
