Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer, has supplied premium 301N austenitic stainless steel for Bangalore Metro Phase 2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the yellow line recently, bringing a major boost to urban transport in Bengaluru.

Earlier in August, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) introduced three trainsets from the CRRC, Titagarh Consortium under this expansion. The full order covers 53 trainsets, which highlights the scale and urgency of Bengaluru’s growing metro network. Jindal Stainless has already supplied 1,031 metric tonnes of stainless steel, while additional deliveries will follow as the project advances.

The company’s 301N steel offers a high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong crash and fire protection. At the same time, it helps operators cut carbon footprints. The metro has used the supplied material in critical areas such as coach roofs and structural parts, ensuring durability and safety for passengers.

Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal, stressed the company’s role in building sustainable infrastructure. He said that they are proud to support India’s metro modernisation. This is central to improving mobility in fast-growing cities. The use of 301N stainless steel supports long-lasting and safer networks. By partnering with Bangalore Metro, Jindal Stainless reaffirms their commitment to sustainable and resilient transport systems.

Beyond Bengaluru, Jindal Stainless has delivered for several global metro projects. Through Alstom India, it supplied steel for networks in Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney. At the same time, it has supplied stainless steel for nearly every metro project in India.

The company also plays a crucial role in India’s landmark railway projects. Its supplies include the Vande Bharat sleeper trains, Vande Metro, and Kolkata’s underwater metro. Additionally, it supported India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Mumbai Metro.

Since 1998, Jindal Stainless has partnered with Indian Railways for wagons, coaches, and infrastructure. With metro and rail projects expanding nationwide, the company expects demand for stainless steel to grow strongly in the coming years.
