Jindal Stainless announced that its domestic service arm, Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited, won the “Green Material for Sustainable Tunnelling” award. The recognition came at the Tunnelling Asia Conference 2025. Moreover, the Tunnelling Association of India organised the event in New Delhi.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji. Therefore, the recognition highlighted stainless steel’s growing role in sustainable infrastructure. Additionally, the award acknowledged environmentally responsible tunnel design and construction practices.
At the same conference, Jindal Stainless Steelway actively contributed to technical discussions. Furthermore, the Head of Tunnel Infrastructure, Mr Sandeep Singh, delivered a detailed presentation. He titled it “Resilient Underground Spaces: Leveraging Stainless Steel for Safety, Longevity, and Sustainability”.
During the session, he explained how stainless steel improves tunnel safety and durability. Additionally, he outlined its ability to extend service life. Consequently, he highlighted its potential to reduce lifecycle environmental impact.
Jindal Stainless stated that the recognition strengthens its commitment to sustainable tunnelling. Moreover, the company aims to promote durable materials with a lower environmental footprint. Therefore, it plans to support greener and more resilient underground infrastructure across India.
The company also believes stainless steel supports faster construction timelines. Additionally, it reduces long-term maintenance requirements. As a result, project owners benefit from lower operational costs and improved structural reliability over decades.
The Tunnelling Association of India began operations in 1991 as a non-profit organisation. It also acts as the Indian chapter of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association. Earlier, India joined the global body in 1976 through the Central Board of Irrigation and Power.
