India’s railway modernisation journey has achieved another significant milestone with the rollout of the 100th Vande Bharat train from the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli. Designed as a 16-coach chair-car train for short- and medium-distance travel, the latest Vande Bharat addition reflects the country’s continued focus on faster, safer, and more efficient rail transportation infrastructure.

Contributing to this landmark project, Jindal Stainless has once again played an important role in supporting India’s next-generation railway manufacturing ecosystem. The company has collaborated with the Integral Coach Factory for the development of Vande Bharat coaches using specialised 301L and 301LN grades of austenitic stainless steel.

These advanced stainless steel grades have been selected for their superior corrosion resistance, enhanced crash resistance, and improved fire safety properties, making them highly suitable for modern railway applications. In addition to ensuring passenger safety and structural durability, the material also contributes to lower lifecycle costs and long-term operational reliability.

A key advantage of these stainless steel grades lies in their high strength-to-weight ratio, which supports lightweight coach construction without compromising performance or safety. This enables improved energy efficiency, smoother operations, and better overall mobility performance , critical requirements for India’s rapidly evolving rail infrastructure.
