Innovative stainless steel containers set to revolutionise green logistics, thanks to a new collaboration between Jindal Stainless and CJ Darcl.
In a pioneering move towards sustainable transportation, Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, has partnered with CJ Darcl Logistics to develop lightweight and durable stainless steel containers. These containers, designed for a wide range of goods like polymers, batteries, and rubber, reduce weight and fuel consumption while enhancing safety and lifespan.
Collaboration Details
1. Sustainable Material
The containers are made from JT grade stainless steel (also known as N7 as per BIS 6991 specifications), replacing traditional carbon steel. Jindal Stainless supplied 2.2 metric tonnes of stainless steel per container, ensuring a lighter weight by approximately 500kg per unit. This innovation increases cargo capacity, improves fuel efficiency, and reduces overall operational costs for logistics providers.
2. Enhanced Durability and Safety
The use of JT stainless steel offers superior impact and fire resistance, extending the lifespan of the containers. The underframes are made from customised stainless steel tubes, further boosting strength and sustainability.

CJ Darcl, with its vast multimodal logistics network, is well-positioned to deploy these containers across various sectors. The lightweight design contributes to long-term cost savings and reduced emissions, aligning with India’s carbon neutrality goal by 2070.

These containers not only reduce carbon footprints but also ensure zero contamination during transport, owing to stainless steel’s inert nature.
Jindal Stainless provided comprehensive support throughout the project, collaborating in design, conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The fabrication team received hands-on training to ensure high standards were met during production.
Ombre Stainless Pvt. Ltd. developed customised stainless steel tubes for the underframes, increasing both strength and sustainability.
Future Vision
Jindal Stainless has a track record of success in the transportation sector, including a previous partnership with JBM Auto to manufacture over 500 energy-efficient electric buses. This demonstrates their ongoing commitment to sustainable innovations.
