The APAC (10th) Ni-Cr-Mn Stainless Steel and New Energy Conference 2025 took place at the Xiamen Marriott Hotel & Conference Centre, China. It was held on October 20-21, 2025. The event brought together global experts and enterprises to explore challenges and opportunities in the stainless steel and new energy sectors. Participants examined market trends and discussed strategies for sustainable growth.
Rajamani Krishnamurti, President of the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), addressed the gathering online. He shared insights on “Stainless Steel: The Indian Growth Story and Future Outlook.” His session focused on India’s expanding role in global stainless steel production and consumption.
India’s melt shop production grew by over seven per cent in 2024. The nation now ranks third globally, just behind China and Indonesia. This steady rise shows India’s strong manufacturing base and continuous infrastructure expansion. Moreover, government initiatives and industrial investments have boosted long-term production stability.
Consumption also recorded impressive growth. India became the world’s second-largest stainless steel consumer, reaching 4.8 million metric tonnes in FY 2024-2025. That marked an increase of nearly eight per cent from the previous year. Strong demand came from construction, infrastructure, process industries, railways, and transportation. Consequently, stainless steel use has spread across multiple sectors.
Production by grade showed a balanced trend. The 300 series grew well in industrial and architectural applications. The 200 series remained dominant in pipes, tubes, and utensils. Meanwhile, the 400 series expanded its share in railways and infrastructure projects.
Krishnamurti highlighted that the ABC sector grew by more than 12 per cent last year. He said India’s pace of development keeps accelerating, opening limitless opportunities for the industry.
The APAC conference created a valuable platform for international collaboration. It emphasised stainless steel’s role in sustainability and renewable energy growth. India’s performance reaffirmed its strength as a stainless steel powerhouse with a bright future.
Stainless Today joined as an official media partner for the conference. The publication continues to support the stainless steel community by promoting industry dialogue and highlighting innovation.
