India, the world’s second-largest maker of crude steel, imposes anti-dumping duty on certain steel products coming from Vietnam. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced this in a recent notification.
This step comes after a year-long probe into Vietnamese steel imports to analyse potential disruptions and injury harming Indian steel producers.
The new duty will apply to specific hot-rolled flat products of alloy and non-alloy steel. “The domestic steel industry has suffered injury as a result of dumped imports,” the ministry said. “The injury margin is positive and significant.”
The ministry also warned that without such a measure, Indian steel mills could face more problems in the future because of these imports.
Earlier in April, India had already put a 12 per cent safeguard duty temporarily on some steel imports from China to curb a surge in low-cost shipments.
