India Steel Expo 2025

Forging India’s Steel Future

India Steel 2025 united global leaders to advance sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation in the steel industry through the Expo and Conferences.

India Steel Expo 2025, the sixth edition of the premier international exhibition and conference on the steel industry, took place from April 24 to 26, 2025, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (NESCO) in Mumbai. Jointly organised by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the event aimed to provide a comprehensive platform for stakeholders across the steel and allied sectors to engage in meaningful dialogues, showcase cutting-edge technologies, and explore business opportunities.

While the expo featured over 300 exhibitors, it attracted a cross section of visitors, including policymakers, industry leaders, and professionals from construction, oil and gas, engineering, and other sectors. Key highlights include live demonstrations of machinery, B2B and B2G meetings, and a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) hosting approximately 250 international buyers from over 80 countries.

A significant focus of the conference was on sustainable practices and the decarbonisation of steel production. In an exclusive interaction with Stainless Today, Moez Cherif, Head – Energy, World Bank, emphasised a phased approach towards green steel, starting with energy efficiency and increased use of scrap through electric arc furnaces, aligning with India’s 2030 targets. He noted that while carbon capture technology holds promise, its current high costs and developmental stage limit immediate applicability.

Finance was another core area of focus during the conference. Speaking with the Stainless Today team, Sanjay Jain, chief general manager of SIDBI, said that for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the stainless steel sector, there is availability of streamlined financial assistance. He advised MSMEs to clearly define their project requirements—be it new ventures, expansion, or modernisation—and leverage SIDBI’s online platforms for quick loan approvals, sometimes within hours, especially for units with two or three years of operational experience.

Digital transformation was another pivotal theme at India Steel 2025. Stefano Pari, COO for Region APAC & MEA, SMS Group, underscored the necessity of digitalisation for maintaining a competitive advantage. He acknowledged that Indian companies are rapidly catching up, benefiting from a pool of young and talented engineers. Pari also pointed out that artificial intelligence, already integrated into digital systems, will increasingly add value to steel production processes.

India Steel Expo 2025 served as a critical convergence point for discussing growth strategies, sustainability and technological advancements in the steel industry, reinforcing India’s position as a global steel leader and its commitment to an ‘AtmanirbharBharat.’
