Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) gears up at its Kanchikode plant in Kerala to build stainless steel metro coaches. The team begins detailed planning after it secures a fresh Rs 414 crore order from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
Moreover, the company plans to manufacture six driverless metro train sets that include 36 cars made up of stainless steel. It strengthens its work with BMRCL, as the total contract now stands at 66 train sets or 396 cars.
Furthermore, BEML draws on a long legacy in India’s rail-coach industry. The firm started producing stainless steel metro cars in 2002 and keeps refining its technical strengths every year.
However, the new order highlights strong demand for reliable mass rapid transit in Bengaluru. Many commuters face long travel hours and hope for smoother daily journeys.
Meanwhile, BEML aims to support the city’s expanding metro network with these advanced coaches. The company also expects the project to ease crowded routes and reduce travel time for thousands of passengers. Additionally, the Kanchikode plant prepares to play a bigger role in national rail manufacturing. Engineers at the unit design efficient production lines to meet strict delivery goals.
Consequently, the project shifts metro-coach production beyond older industrial centres. The plan also creates more job opportunities for local workers in the Palakkad district. Moreover, BEML leaders trust their trained workforce to deliver high-quality driverless metro systems. The plant also teaches new recruits modern stainless steel fabrication skills.
Still, the company maintains firm quality checks to ensure every coach meets global safety norms. The team studies proven international metro designs and adapts them for Indian needs.
Finally, Bengaluru commuters may soon travel in these new Kerala-built coaches. The project blends growth in manufacturing, progress in technology, and improvement in public mobility. It also boosts trust in India’s metro-coach capability and supports a cleaner urban future.
