ISSDA and GSSE Partner to Advance Stainless Steel’s Role in India’s Clean Energy Transition
The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) and the Global Stainless Steel Expo (GSSE) have entered into a strategic partnership to promote stainless steel as a key material supporting India’s transition towards clean energy and sustainable industrial growth.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of stainless steel across critical sectors such as green hydrogen, renewable energy, mobility, infrastructure and industrial processing. By bringing together manufacturers, EPC companies, technology providers, policymakers and international buyers, the partnership seeks to strengthen India’s stainless steel ecosystem while expanding its global presence.
As part of the initiative, ISSDA and GSSE will jointly organise technical conferences, buyer-seller meets, industry outreach programmes and international collaborations to showcase advanced stainless steel applications in emerging industries.
According to industry experts, stainless steel is increasingly becoming the material of choice for green hydrogen, ammonia, LNG, ethanol, chemical processing and renewable energy infrastructure due to its superior corrosion resistance, durability and long service life.
The partnership also highlights the need for a National Stainless Steel Policy to support domestic manufacturing, ensure access to critical raw materials and enhance India’s competitiveness in global clean energy supply chains.
Industry projections indicate that India’s stainless steel market is expected to reach USD 15.8 billion (approximately ₹1.36 lakh crore) by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1%. Despite having an installed production capacity of 7.5 million tonnes, current capacity utilisation stands at only 60–65%, while imports—largely from China—continue to account for 25–28% of domestic demand.
Commenting on the partnership, Rajamani Krishnamurti, President, ISSDA, said that India’s clean energy ambitions require advanced materials capable of delivering durability, safety and performance.
“Stainless steel is indispensable for green hydrogen, ammonia handling, ethanol production and several emerging technologies. As these sectors expand, India has a tremendous opportunity to become a global manufacturing and supply hub for specialised stainless steel products.”
With India’s focus on becoming a global clean energy leader, the ISSDA-GSSE partnership is expected to play a significant role in promoting innovation, strengthening domestic manufacturing and expanding the use of stainless steel across next-generation industrial applications.
