Jindal Stainless has launched a new Salt Tipper Trailer at its Technical Conclave in Gujarat. The innovation aims to solve long-standing problems in salt logistics, such as corrosion, high maintenance and short vehicle life.
The company has built the trailer using two stainless steel grades, 304 and JT (N7 as per BIS 6911). These materials offer better corrosion resistance, fire safety and structural strength. Traditional trailers used in salt transport usually wear out within 3-4 years. However, Jindal’s new stainless-steel design could last 15-20 years.
Because stainless steel makes the trailer around 25 per cent lighter, logistics operators can save about Rs 25-30 lakh over 10 years. Jindal Stainless tested the trailers in a pilot before the official launch. Now, transport players in Gujarat and Rajasthan are already showing interest and planning to integrate the design into their fleets.
Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, said the company wants to create solutions that transform entire industries. He believes salt producers and logistics firms can gain long-term value through durable and low-maintenance systems. Tarun Khulbe, CEO and CFO, added that the new trailers will cut downtime costs and reduce corrosion repairs, improving operational efficiency.
India needs around 70,000 trailers every year across different sectors. Gujarat produces over 85 per cent of India’s 33-35 million tonnes of salt, making it a strategic launch site.
To scale up the initiative, Jindal Stainless is joining hands with certified fabricators and ITI-trained professionals. The company is also working with stainless steel academies to build a skilled workforce. In addition, it plans to collaborate with industry bodies and state logistics agencies to promote stainless steel trailers in other corrosion-prone transport segments.
This step fits into Jindal Stainless’s larger strategy of linking material innovation with real-world applications in transport, infrastructure, automotive and renewable energy. By combining durability, efficiency and sustainability, the company hopes to redefine logistics in challenging environments.
