Jindal Stainless has taken a key step in boosting its global production, commissioning a new stainless steel melt shop in Indonesia ahead of schedule. The move increases its total melting capacity and strengthens its ability to meet rising demand, while the company also plans further investments in India to expand downstream production and support future growth targets.
The company has commissioned a 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) stainless steel melt shop in Indonesia through a joint venture. This was completed earlier than planned and adds to its global footprint. With this addition, Jindal Stainless’ total melting capacity has risen to 4.2 MTPA, including 3 MTPA from its operations in India.
This expansion comes less than two years after the company announced a 40 per cent increase in its melting capacity. The latest development reflects its ongoing focus on increasing output and strengthening its production base to serve both domestic and international markets.
Alongside the melting expansion, the company is also investing heavily in its downstream facilities. It is preparing to commission a 1.1 MTPA Hot Rolled Annealed Pickled (HRAP) line and a 0.17 MTPA Cold Rolled Annealed Pickled (CRAP) line in Jajpur, Odisha. These projects are part of an earlier investment plan worth Rs 1,900 crore.
In addition, Jindal Stainless has committed a further Rs 900 crore to expand cold rolling capacity at its Hisar and Kharagpur plants. These upgrades will allow the company to produce thinner cold-rolled products, which are widely used in high-growth industries.
Once all the planned expansions are completed, the company’s cold-rolled capacity is expected to grow significantly, helping it meet evolving market needs more efficiently.
The company is targeting sales volumes of around 3.5 MTPA by FY29, aiming to achieve steady double-digit growth over the next few years. It expects its expanded production capabilities to play a key role in reaching this goal.
Company leaders have highlighted that these investments are designed to ensure raw material security, improve value-added product offerings, and strengthen its integrated production model. They added that the expansion will help the company serve growing demand while reinforcing its position in the global stainless steel market.
Overall, Jindal Stainless is positioning itself for long-term growth by increasing capacity, improving efficiency, and focusing on higher-quality, value-driven products.
