A new stainless steel power play by Shyam Metalics

Can stainless steel truly withstand the harshest industrial conditions without losing precision? Shyam Metalics believes it can. The company has introduced Tiger Stainless, a new specialised stainless steel vertical with an integrated melting and rolling capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum, marking a strong step forward in India’s stainless steel manufacturing story.

A new chapter in stainless steel

Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd has launched Tiger Stainless as a focused stainless steel vertical designed for strength, accuracy and long-term durability. With an integrated melting and rolling capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum TPA, the facility is built to deliver high-performance stainless steel products for demanding sectors.

The unit is equipped with advanced Italian Danieli rolling mills, ensuring precision and consistency in every batch. Dedicated bar and wire lines support production, enabling tight surface tolerances and reliable mechanical properties.

Tiger Stainless offers a wide product range, including austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex and super duplex grades. These grades are specially developed for applications that require high corrosion resistance and performance in extreme environments. The company maintains strict grade discipline across the entire production process to ensure quality and reliability.

The new stainless steel vertical complements the company’s existing infrastructure portfolio, which includes SEL Tiger TMT bars and roofing sheets.

Built on a strong steel foundation

Shyam Metalics operates across the entire steel production chain, starting from iron pellets and moving up to finished rolled products. The company previously operated under the name Shyam DRI and Power Ltd before it rebranded itself as Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd.

The company has a presence in 32 Indian states and Union Territories and exports to 17 countries. Its products are distributed through a network of more than 2,000 dealers and distributors.

With three manufacturing plants, one in Sambalpur, Odisha, and two in Jamuria and Mangalpur, West Bengal, the company has a combined installed metal capacity of 13 million tonnes per annum MTPA. It also operates captive power plants with a total capacity of 118 MW.

Shyam Metalics is ranked among India’s leading sponge iron producers, according to industry reports, and focuses on value-added and customised steel products.

Growth, scale and future plans

With an overall capacity of 16.78 MTPA across product segments, Shyam Metalics continues to expand its footprint. Its market capitalisation stood at over Rs 16,200 crore in early 2023, and its share price has seen strong growth over the past year.

The company is also diversifying into new areas such as pig iron, ductile iron pipes and aluminium foil. Through Tiger Stainless, it aims to strengthen India’s position in specialised stainless steel, combining scale, precision and durability to support infrastructure and industrial growth.
