In a bid to produce eco-friendly food processing and beverage products machinery, Outokumpu and Tetra Pak collaborate over the use of low-emission stainless steel.
Outokumpu, the global leader in sustainable stainless steel production, has collaborated with Tetra Pak, a leading food processing and packaging solutions company, to produce Tetra Pak’s homogenisers. The low emission stainless steel option of all Tetra Pak homogenisers will be available across Europe from June 2024 onwards.
This partnership marks the start of Tetra Pak’s journey to explore other applications of Circle Green across its equipment portfolio in accordance with EU’s Green Deal.
Food systems are responsible for over a third of the total emission of greenhouse gases globally. In the packaged food sector, homogenisation is a crucial part of the production process from dairy to table sauces. Stainless steel is essential material for food processing industry due to its anti-corrosive properties, smooth surface and easy to clean ability ensuring durability and hygiene that are both key to the industry.
Circle Green is the first-of-its-kind low emission stainless steel manufacturing process with such low emissions as they take into account the entire production process from raw material extraction to the finished product stage with about 93 per cent lower carbon footprint than regular processing. To achieve these results Outokumpu uses 100 per cent low-carbon electricity, low carbon raw materials like recycled steel along with an optimised production process.
